News From Book Tour

What an honor it has been to be welcomed into living rooms across the country to share in book group discussions about Fill the Sky! I have been struck by how deeply moved many readers have been by the book, and the real conversations that have been sparked by the journeys of Tess, Ellie and Joline. For me, it’s like three great imaginary friends of mine are now great friends with all of you!

I have been touched by so many facets of this experience— a reader telling me she understood for the first time something her friend has been struggling with after reading a particular passage, another woman vowing to have an important conversation with her husband, and yet another reader feeling that the book has allowed her to look at many facets of her life in a whole new way.

News From Book Tour December

In December, I happened to luck into several holiday-themed book groups with Christmas cheer abounding (not to mention champagne & ugly sweaters), and several hosts have served up recipes and wines from the Fill the Sky Book Group Guide (click here to get one). Mari (Portland, OR) made the yummy Andean sweet potato and lentil soup, Diane (Holliston, MA) whipped up the delicious spinach patties with salsa, and Kathleen (Cohasset, MA) made a wonderful rendition of the TresLeches desert.

But, let me not get distracted by the food… From the “Divas” in NJ who consider themselves “ the best book group ever,” to a gathering of women in New York (which I called into) who got together just to discuss this book, these gatherings are about friendship and fun, conversation and laughter. Thank you for having me, and I can’t wait until the next one!

News From Book Tour Cohasset

Of course, it all started with my very own book group in Cohasset. I was lucky enough to be invited into this group of fabulous women by my neighbor, and we have been meeting religiously for years. Many of you feel strong, lasting ties to your book group and I feel exactly the same! They have supported my writing journey from the beginning and hearing them discuss Fill the Sky (I really did my best to be quiet for as long as possible!) was a marvel. Thanks, ladies!

Book Groups from Afar

Happy as a clam to report that several long-distance book group conversations have been a real success. This group from Portland Oregon in particular was a wonderful treat. We shared wine virtually (me happily ensconced at my writing desk– these lovely ladies in the livinEHerrickPortlandg room you see here). Fortunately I didn’t know how HUGE my face was in the living room until they sent me the photo! More importantly, the conversation was wonderfully stimulating– everything from the writing process to shared stories of shamanic healing to discussion of particular character traits of the three heroines in Fill the Sky. I had to finally sign off at midnight (East Coast time), but could have talked all night, Thank you Erin, Lara and everyone in Portland who continues to be great supporters of this book!
